the Village

A nonprofit website became a connected platform where athletes, families, volunteers, donors, and partners can take part in the mission.

The mission was present, but visitors had to work to understand it

The original site already had meaningful ingredients: the community photo, the organization’s logo, the phrase “It takes a village,” and several ways to help. The experience did not yet connect those pieces into one clear story.

Navigation competed with the central message. Programs and actions sat across separate menus, while general-purpose sections made the organization feel more like a template than a growing movement.

Before and after

The same community image now carries a clearer promise

Original Athlete's Village homepage with navigation taking priority over the mission
BeforeNavigation first

The original image communicated community, but the page gave the mission little room to speak.

Redesigned Athlete's Village homepage centered on the statement Every Athlete Deserves a Village
AfterMission first

Stronger hierarchy and direct actions explain why the community matters and how visitors can help.

“Every Athlete Deserves a Village” became the organizing idea

The redesign began with the story rather than the layout. The new language names the athletes the organization serves, including young people who are priced out, cut from teams, or still developing.

That decision gave every page a job. Visitors can understand the problem, see how Athlete's Village responds, and choose a useful next step.

Design decisions became easier once the mission had a clear center.

03 · Beyond the brochure

A website designed to support real participation

The experience grew with the organization. Community members can now move from interest to action without piecing together several disconnected paths.

Community

Booster Club

Players, fans, and coaches can learn about the club, register, join fundraisers, and support student organizations.

Giving

Secure payments

Card payments and supported digital wallets let visitors contribute while staying connected to the mission.

Growth

Events and partners

Dedicated event experiences and visible partner recognition give new programs room to grow.

Operations

Connected follow-up

Registration records, payment status, membership details, and communication move through one coordinated workflow.

One simple form coordinates the work behind the scenes

  1. 01
    A visitor registers

The member chooses a player, fan, or coach role.

  2. 02
    Airtable records the request

The record tracks pending, paid, or failed status.

  3. 03
    Square handles payment

The website submits a secure payment token for the registration charge.

  4. 04
    MailerLite supports follow-up

Member details and role information prepare the next communication.

The technology stays behind the experience. The visitor registers once, while the site coordinates payment status, member information, and follow-up.

05 · Responsible AI-assisted delivery

Rapid drafts made better feedback possible

AI helped translate direction into working pages, integrations, and focused revisions. Human review determined what the mission required, which ideas belonged, and when the experience was ready.

The work progressed through small, reviewable changes. Mobile navigation fixes, content refinements, integration debugging, and environment configuration each remained visible in the project history.

A repeatable release path kept testing separate from production

GitHub kept each change visible and reviewable. Netlify built the site from the repository, bundled the supporting functions, and produced safe previews before publication.

Environment-aware configuration allowed preview and local builds to use Square’s sandbox while production selected live values. Server-side secrets stayed in Netlify rather than the repository.

The result

A clearer story with practical ways to build the village

Athlete's Village now has a digital home that explains the mission and supports day-to-day participation. The organization can add events, recognize partners, register members, and accept support through one coherent experience.

AI accelerated the work. Jonathan supplied the vision, context, corrections, and standards that gave it meaning.
